I Knew, or I AM NEW!

He gives new life to my soul‘ (Psalm 23:3 – Bible in Basic English)

God spoke to Isaiah when Israel were being unfaithful, yet again.

He said to him, ‘Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old‘ (Isaiah 43:18 ESV).

When we read that passage in the New Living Translation, it puts it into a more modern easier way of speaking;

forget all that… … … it is nothing compared to what I am going to do‘ (Isaiah 43:18 NLT).

And why, you may ask should we forget the things from our past?

Jesus said that we should forgive people, ‘even if they sin against you seven times a day… … come back… saying “I repent”, you must forgive‘ (Luke 17:4 NIV).

We need to forgive, and move on with our lives.

The reason that we need to forgive and let the past stay in the past, is that our God, is the God of second chances. Even when we sin and turn from God because we think we know best;

The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease… … his mercies begin afresh each morning‘ (Lamentations 3:22 & 23 NLT).

And not only that, but even after we have sinned against God, we can return at any time, he is always waiting for us;

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness‘ (1 John 1:9 ESV)

So each and every day, yes every day, that we are on this planet, God’s mercy, love and forgiveness are renewed towards us.

Every day his goodness towards us starts anew; he renews us daily. Some renewals we dread, such as car tax, or car insurance renewal. But with God, we know that he will do nothing that will hurt us, he only ‘plans to prosper you and not harm you‘ (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV).

So how does God renew us?

He restores my soul‘ (Psalm 23:3 ESV).

He renews my life‘ (Psalm 23:3 HCSB).

He restores my strength‘ (Psalm 23:3 NET).

Restores and renews. That is what our God does for us. And what does he restore?

He restores, soul, life and strength; whichever version you read, the important word is ‘restores’ or ‘renews’.

Restore me to the joy of Your salvation‘ (Psalm 51:12 NKJV).

If we turn to Jesus, we can find restoration and renewal.

We need to remember what Paul reminded the church in Corinth about; ‘if any-one is in Christ, the new creation has come‘ (2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV). So when we go to God initially, or we return to God, after trying it n our own, he is always there waiting for us.

When we are renewed in Christ, we need to remember, ‘throw off our [your] old sinful nature and our [your] former way of life, which is corrupted‘ (Ephesians 4:22 NLT).

You may ask, how do we get rid of our old self?

We separate our-self from what is around us, ‘Don’t copy the behaviour and customs of this world‘ (Romans 12:2 NLT).

Why should we not copy the ways of the world you may ask?

We need to be more lie Jesus; change and start again, ‘ by the renewing of your mind‘ (Romans 12:2 NKJV).

We cannot do things like this in our own strength, we need help; Jesus said, ‘apart from me you can do nothing‘ (John 15:5 NIV).

We need to trust God.

We know that he love us so much (John 3:16).

Renewal comes as a gift from God, as do all things, and it is free to everyone who wants it, and the renewal comes in us in our eternal life, we are changed from some-one who will eventually die, to some-one who will live forever with Jesus, the ultimate renewal;

We all need to remember, that, ‘whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life‘ (John 3:16 NIV).

Christ takes me seriously

In the crushing
In the pressing
You are making new wine
In the soil I now surrender
You are breaking new ground

So I yield to You and to Your careful hand
When I trust You I don’t need to understand

Make me Your vessel
Make me an offering
Make me whatever You want me to be
I came here with nothing but all You have given me
Jesus bring new wine out of me

You are breaking new ground

Jesus bring new wine out of me
Jesus bring new wine out of me

Cause where there is new wine
There is new power
There is new freedom
The Kingdom is here
I lay down my old flames
To carry Your new fire today

Jesus bring new wine out of me
Jesus bring new wine out of me

downloadFather, we know that in you we can have a newness of life, and an eternal hope of a glorious life with you forever. You are so, so good to us; we know that everything you give us is for our benefit, your plans for us are to help us grow in you, and for the expansion of your kingdom. May everything that we do help those in our community around us, and may everything that we do bring you glory and honour.
Lord we thank you for all the gifts that you give to us. Help us to use these gifts for your glory, and for the good of the kingdom of heaven. May we honour you in the way that we use our gifts. Lord we know that everything that we have comes from you, help us to be good stewards of our lives so that you get the glory.

Amen
