‘The truth is out there’ (X Files – 1993 – 2002)
When the X files aired on television, there was a tagline used to try to cultivate an air of mystery for the show, to try to entice viewers, the tagline was, ‘the truth is out there’
The ‘truth’ they were referring to, was the fact that they were trying to say that alien races really exist, and that there had been alien visitations to earth.
But is the truth really out there, and if so, what is it?
Yes the truth really is out there, and it is out there in the form of the words given to humans by the creator of the universe. They were kept sacred, and passed down from generation to generation, and then ultimately, they were collected together to form what we, and many now know as ‘The Bible’.
The truth as given to us from our God!
According to the web-site ‘Worldatlas.com’, and also ‘Wikipedia’, (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_books – accessed 19/08/18) the world’s best-selling book of all time, which has according to the site, has sold in excess of 4 billion copies. The book that sold so much, is ‘The Bible’ (https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/the-best-selling-books-of-all-time.html – accessed 18/08/19).
As Christians, we believe that the words of the Bible were inspired by God and given to man (and some women) to remember. God said to the nation of Israel;
‘Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds’ (Deuteronomy 11:18 NIV).
We believe that through the words of the Bible, that God will let us know what we need to know;
‘I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go’ (Psalm 32:8 ESV).
In other words, God has given us a training manual, the ultimate training manual called the Bible, and when we delve into the individual books within, we can find all manner of information about what God has in store for us;
‘For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD’ (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV).
So we know that God wants what is best for us, therefore he has a plan for each and everyone of us; we also know that God does not make mistakes;
‘Does he who teaches mankind lack knowledge?’ (Psalm 94:10 NIV).
So the plans that God has for us, are good plans, and they will help us, and not hinder us, all we have to do is listen to God;
‘For he is rightly instructed; his God teaches him’ (Isaiah 28:28 ESV).
‘who teaches us more than the beast of the earth and makes us wiser than the birds of the sky?‘ (Job 35:11 NIV).
So we know that we all have a good plan for our life from our creator, who knows us intimately, (Psalm 139:14-16) and along with that plan, God will teach us what we need to know, and guide us. We know also that we will never be on our own;
‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’ (Hebrews 13:5 ESV).
So we need to remember, that even though we may be physically on our own, we are never completely alone, as we will always have our Lord and Saviour along-side us. This is true, especially if we consider the beautiful words of the poem ‘Footprints in the sand’ (http://www.wowzone.com/fprints.htm – accessed 18/08/19).
We also know that we have a sure hope of an eternal life when we trust and follow Jesus (John 3:16); Jesus even died for us, even though we did not deserve it;
‘While we were still sinners, Christ died for us’ (Romans 5:8 NIV).
And even though we did not deserve it, we can remember the words of the Psalmist David, who said;
‘Good and upright is the LORD; who instructs sinners in his ways’ (Psalm 25:8 NIV).
We truly are sinners, saved by grace;
‘For by grace you have been saved through faith’ (Ephesians 2:8 ESV).
When we go to school, we have to be obedient to what the teachers will tell us, as if we do not listen to what they say, we will not learn from them, and the time they spend and the time we spend in the lesson will be wasted.
This is just as applicable, to what God says to us, we need to be attentive to him, and be prepared to listen for his words, we need to be humble and ready to accept what God is saying to us;
‘He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way’ (Psalm 25:9 NIV).
The truth may not really be out there, as referred to by the X files, but the truth is available to anyone and everyone who is willing to look for it. We have to be humble and look within the pages of the world’s most sold book.
Are you a bookworm? Do you want to know the most amazing plans that are there for you? Do you want to know the God who created you?
Are you up for a good book?
One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there was one only.
This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints, so I said to the Lord,
“You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there has only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?”
The Lord replied, “The years when you have seen only one set of footprints, my child, is when I carried you.”
